Foxtrot's specialty is pinot noir, and only pinot noir. The winery, currently under development, is owned by Torsten Allander, a retired engineer, with his wife, Elisabeth, son, Gustav and daughter, Anne-Marie. This Naramata Bench vineyard was planted to pinot noir in the mid-1990s. The Allanders, who had been living in West Vancouver, bought the property as a country retreat. After selling grapes for several years, Torsten created his own label, setting up a three-vintage winemaking trial at a nearby winery, starting in 2004, to assess the quality of Foxtrot-grown pinot noir. The 2004 and 2005 vintages, released at $50 a bottle, was received with such enthusiasm by restaurateurs and critics that the Allanders equipped their own cellar to make and age their wines. The winery's first chardonnay was released from the 2008 vintage and also won critical acclaim.
