3897 Casorso Rd.
This winery completes the circle for the Casorso family, Kelowna's first grape-growing family. Ann Sperling's uncle, Charles Casorso, planted grapes in 1925. His brother, Napoleon Peter, Sperling's grandfather, planted another vineyard five years later and Bert Sperling, Ann's father, converted that property entirely to grapes in 1960. A block of maréchal foch from 1964 and riesling from 1978 are the oldest blocks here. Sperling, who started her winemaking career in 1984 at André's, has long wanted to make premium wines from the family's vineyard. While her father continues to sell most of the grapes, the family finally decided to launch a small premium winery, with Sperling and husband, Peter Gamble, making the wines to this day. The couple are active winery consultants and she continues as director of winery operations for Niagara's Southbrook winery.
